I did this last year, its a tough ride but a nice route. One big loop on quiet roads, and I remember pulled pork at the end. Couple of big climbs and not a lot of shelter from the wind.

Hey Bayden, I took a shufti at the route, looks straight forward but with very little climbing but I am worried there won't be a lot of elite racers showing up so not sure if it's worth attending. Do you think this is something that the local Ontario Elite racers would all be attending or would it be more like one of the fun based rides chok-a-blok with pikers similar to the Tour de Hands or Centurion type events?
I head back to the southern hemisphere next week to get ready for the start of our racing season so need to be watchful about any crashes before I go. Brad

The route looks nice, and Brad actually its mostly racers at the front end of all the citizens events like tour de Hans and Centurion. There's 100's of people there just out for a ride as well, but near the front it's fun.
Some events around here have stayed as strictly touring style rides, but not a lot of them.
I doubt this will be a huge race even though its mass start, so I wouldn't expect extreme sketch or anything.

Thanks for the update Bayden, Would the racers be similar to the type of riders who came out for that Tuesday night ride i joined? Or are they significantly faster? The riders were pretty decent conditioning wise except for a few who were hanging off the back for the whole ride then raced on that last hill before the final sprint into the small town. Those kind of riders worry me as you don't see that kind of behavior at club rides back home. Are the riders in this event similar or do people actually work hard and ride honestly or will it be more of the amateur stuff.

Last year was pretty fast, I remember a jet fuel and Octto rider in the lead group with us as well as a few other M1 guys. Expect around a 38kmh average pace at the front based on last year. There is a separate ride for the 'tour' fun riders.
120km and around 700m of climbing, so not a hilly race no. 1 tough climb midway of about 120m.

Brad, I haven't done this event before so I can't really say for certain how it will shake out, but I would expect a mixed bag of wheel sucking, proper racing, and one or two pros throwing down.
Some of my team mates will be there too, so all together I think we can have a good say in the outcome of this race.

Sorry Brad I am not sure I will be able to make it to pull your big butt up that last hill. Let me know if your going and maybe I will give you some climbing tips. The first bit of advice I can give you is to put down the Big Mac you're currently eating and munch a celery stick with a Metamucil chaser. WSD

I wasn't talking about anyone specifically mate, I just noticed some of the guys never pulled but seemed to suddenly have all this energy at the end, like others don't notice you haven't pulled once and will be impressed that you outsprinted them. Oh and a big butt equals big power, not everyone needs to look like a climber to be a good racer especially on the flat roads in Ontario. My schedule looks good right now, so I signed up. Hope to see some friendly faces there. Brad

Good stuff Bradley! I am also going to sign up, I see the deadline is midnight tonight for anyone doing the online thing. You may not be seeing my friendly face, more like my butt. I won't be seeing much of you until afterwards. I will be cheering when you finish long after me, when I have had a bite to eat, changed and showered;). Your piker Cory.

I have decided to pull out of the race (after first pulling my head out of Cory's butt), nothing to do with Cory scaring me off, I love trash talk and was looking forward to racing with him. I just had other things come up. Good luck to everyone! Brad

Hey Brad, Sorry to hear you couldn't make it, the trash talk was fun and I am sure we would've had a good time. E-mail me when you get back to the US next year and we will get out and ride again. Cory

I suppose I should mention at this point before people assume I am really that mean, that Brad is a fictional character I created as part of a ruse. The real Brad (from NZ, not the Australian Brad) who rode with us for two rides was long gone when I started the posts. I attempted to portray him as a reasonable character who was critical of sandbaggers like myself. My harsh responses were follow ups to e-mails back and forth between Bayden and I where I was trying to enlist his help in beating Brad in the race. Thanks Bayden for all your helpful advice! Hope you don't mind me posting one of your messages to me, it meant a lot.
"There's lots of other things we are other than how we stack up on a hammerfest or Thursday A ride though, so if you're looking back at what could have been or whatever, at the end of the day we're just riding bikes around, the pawn and the king all go back into the same box at the end of the game. Bayden".
