Hey there!
My husband and I are leading a small cycling team in an event called Ride for Refuge.
Ride for Refuge is an annual event aimed at raising funds and awareness for organizations helping vulnerable, displaced and exploited people around the world. This includes widows, orphans, refugees and internally-displaced people, victims of human trafficking and abuse, the homeless, and so on.
Our team, Spice Up Others' Lives, will be riding to raise money for Africa Inland Mission (AIM) and we are looking for more riders.
More details on the Project: Lake Victoria HIV/AIDS project is located in the Tanzanian islands of Lake Victoria. Remote fishing villages are facing some of the highest rates of HIV infection in the world (up to 80% in some communities), our team takes an integrated, holistic approach to healthcare, addressing spiritual and physical needs through household health education, maternal-child health services, HIV testing and counseling, home-based and palliative care, and general health services. Funds from the RIDE will enable 36 workers and two island clinics to carry on their life-changing work in 24 communities.
We are hoping to have at least 10 riders, and raise a minimum of $5,000 as a team. We currently have six riders.
Riders can participate to their level of ability, choosing routes of 10km, 25km, 50km and 100km. Routes are well-marked, with rest-stops and sweep vehicles along the way. Afterwards lunch is provided. The RIDE has a great website and web-based fundraising platform, fully integrated with various social media platforms. There are fundraising tips, tools and training videos – great material that can help teams create buzz about their cause. AIM has a partner page on the website with details about our project and teams.
If you want to register check out their website: www.rideforrefuge.org. You need to register and create an account for each person riding. You'll have to search for our team by selecting Waterloo Region. You can search for the team by using the captain's name (Lucas Spicer) or the team name: Spice Up Others' Lives. There is a $25 registration fee, but you can choose to waive that. If you raise $150, then there is no fee. If however, you don't raise that much, then you'll be asked to pay the registration fee on ride day. They'll give you a link and you can use it to post on social media or email the link out to potential donors.
Please email Viviana.spicer@gmail.com if you have any questions.
