Giant's new aluminum composition bikes seem just as light as carbon fibre. I would assume that they have a better crash test rating. Any opinions on pros and cons of aluminum vs carbon if the weight factor is eliminated?

Big fan of Carbon Fibre but some new aluminum frames are damn nice. Cannondale has been doing a great job with the CAAD 10 frames for a number of years, rode one for a season and it was great. Frame strength is about the same but carbon still has way better high frequency bump absorption. It really comes down to price points. Aluminum will be cheaper. Another thing to consider is carbon can be repaired, aluminum cannot be.
